Hire Lewis and Matt, not an agency
Lewis designs it, Matt builds it. Bring us the website that isn’t working, the feature you were told needs a whole new site, or the project your own team hasn’t time for.
You talk to the two of us, from the first call to the last fix.

A problem comes in and whichever of us is better placed picks it up, then pulls the other in when it needs both. No account managers, no hand-offs, no juniors learning on your project. The person who answers your email is the person who can fix the problem.
Some clients bring us one job. Others keep us on for a few days a month, as the design and development team they don’t have to employ.
What people bring us
-
A site that isn’t working
Slow, broken, hacked or just embarrassing. We fix what’s wrong and leave the rest alone.

A new website, designed properly
Lewis designs it around your business, Matt builds it by hand, and it’s accessible as standard.
A new website -
Tools that don’t talk to each other

Who you’ll be working with
-

Lewis Clegg
Designer · Halifax, UK
Lewis is a graphic designer with over a decade of experience across brand, identity and editorial, from print to digital platforms used by tens of thousands of people every day.
He shapes how your site looks and feels: the visual world, the interface, the small details. His instinct is always for clarity over decoration, the kind of design that quietly helps people find what they need.
-

Matt Bedford
Developer · Monza, Italy
Matt’s a PHP developer at heart, equally at home building a WordPress site, writing a plugin or wiring up a tricky integration.
He’ll explain what he’s building in plain English, so you stay in control of your project. No mysteries, just clear and valuable tools that help your business work.
What it costs
Three ways to work with us. Whichever you choose, you’ll have the price in writing before we start.
-
A project
Fixed quote
Agreed before any work starts
Best for a new website, a redesign, or a single feature with a clear finish line.
- Scope agreed in plain English
- One price, no meter running
- Design, build, testing and launch
-
Fractional
Under £2,500
For ten days a month, excluding VAT
Best when you need a designer, a developer or both on hand, without employing either.
- Lewis or Matt, whichever you need
- Both of us, ten days each: under £4,500
- Book a month at a time, no tie-in
-
A day
£350 a day
Each, excluding VAT
Best for short jobs, one-off fixes and finding out what’s actually wrong.
- Same rate for design and development
- No minimum
- Pay for the days worked
Longer than a week?
We don’t charge the day rate for longer jobs. Anything over a week is priced as a project or a monthly fee, which works out lower.
Whichever way, the first look is free. Always. How that works.
We’ll never lock you in
We want you to be happy with the work, always. If a week in either side can see we’re not the right fit, we stop. You pay for the days worked and nothing else: no cancellation fee, no admin charge. The same goes for monthly work: the first week is the trial, and the month’s fee only applies if we both carry on.
We’re also honest about what two people can do. If you need a team on call around the clock, or twenty people at the kick-off meeting, a larger agency will suit you better. And if you want the cheapest website possible, there are plenty of templates out there. We’re for businesses that want something built properly, and want to know exactly who built it.
We have opinions
Years of building and fixing websites have taught us a few things. You get all of it just by working with us, at no extra cost. It’s your site, though: where we disagree, you decide.
We hold our own site to this. It sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else’s servers.
-
Start simple, then grow what works
We’d rather launch the smallest thing that does the job, watch how people use it, and build on the parts that earn their keep.
-
Collect less
We don’t like cookies and trackers nobody looks at. A site that gathers less has less to ask permission for, and less to look after.
-
Lighter pages
Did you know websites have a carbon footprint? Every page loaded uses energy. We keep ours light, and that same work makes your site faster and easier to find in search.
-
No page builders, given the choice
We’d recommend against them every time. If your site already runs on one, that’s fine: we work with what you have.
-
Fewer plugins
Matt will ask whether you really need all of them. It’s always your call, but simpler usually wins.
-
Secure and accessible, always
These are the two we don’t bend on. We won’t build something that misses either.
-
“Our old site cost us money every month for hosting nobody looked after, and it did nothing for us. Lewis and Matt built one that shows forty years of our work and costs nothing to host. They took out the tracking nobody was looking at, so we don’t even need a cookie notice. They were on our side from the start, and as clear about what we didn’t need as what we did.”
-
“My team used to type the same information into one system after another. Lewis and Matt gave us a single platform where a sign-up becomes a contact, a payment and a badge without anyone touching it. Every time we have had a new idea since, they have added it to what we have. We have never had to start again.”
-
“Lewis and Matt are consummate professionals; we have collaborated with them on various high-level projects. Their problem-solving skills and ability to produce precise, efficient code are the qualities we appreciate most, not to mention their proactive approach and rapid delivery.”
Questions people ask us
Is it really just the two of you?
Yes. Lewis designs and Matt develops.
Where are you based?
Lewis is in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and Matt is in Monza, near Milan. We work remotely, and use co-working spaces in Halifax, Reading and Monza when it helps to meet in person. We work with clients anywhere in the UK and Europe. We don’t take on work outside Europe, sorry.
Are you in Bedford?
No. Bedford is a family surname, not our town. Lewis is in Halifax and Matt is in Monza, and the company is registered in England, near Reading.
Who do we pay?
Bedford Coding Ltd, a UK limited company trading since 2018. It holds the contract, sends the invoices and is accountable for the work, so you get two people you know by name and a proper company behind them. There’s more about the company if you want it.
How much will it cost?
A day of either of us is £350 excluding VAT. Projects are quoted at a fixed price once we understand the job. Regular monthly work costs less: ten days a month from one of us for under £2,500, or ten days from each of us for under £4,500. Either way, you get the figure in writing before you commit to anything.
Can you work on a website someone else built?
Usually, yes. If your site is basically sound and only needs a new feature or a fix, that’s what we’ll quote for. We won’t tell you to start again unless starting again is genuinely the cheaper option.
What do you build with?
Mostly WordPress or hand-built static sites for websites, and PHP and Laravel for plugins and applications. We choose based on what you need to do with it afterwards, not on what we fancy.
What happens when one of you is on holiday?
We plan around it and tell you in advance. Everything we build is documented and kept under version control, so nothing lives only in one person’s head.
How quickly will we hear back?
Within one working day, and the reply comes from one of us.
Tell us what you need
Drop us a line about the problem. It’ll be one of us who replies. Here’s how it works.
